Session 1: The Common Core State Standards and Text Complexity: Central to the Common Core State Standards is students’ increasingly capacity to read complex texts. This presentation begins by considering the central content and strategies of proficient reading. It then moves to showing how this foundation supports increasing capacity with complex text.

Session 2: What’s Core about the Common Core State Standards: Core Vocabulary and Core Concepts: To bring students to the high levels of the CCSS requires solid grounding in two types of vocabulary: core vocabulary and the vocabulary of core concepts. This presentation will focus on instruction of both types of vocabulary.
