Growing Students’ Capacity with Complex Text: Information, Exposure, Engagement
In this presentation, Dr. Hiebert, president and CEO of TextProject, Inc., and advisor to the text complexity strand on K-2 text for the Common Core State Standards, will describe the kinds of learning experiences students at all levels require to move up the staircase of increasingly more complex text: (a) information (worthy text that increases knowledge of the social and physical world), (b) exposure (many opportunities to read and write in sustained ways), and (c) engagement (occasions to choose topics and texts that allow them to develop areas of expertise).
