Stretching Elementary Students in Complex Texts: Why? How? When?

    The CCSS focuses on stretching students in increasingly complex text. The stretch focus represents a major shift in reader-text matching which have typically accentuated the avoidance of frustration rather than the pursuit of challenge. How should teachers stretch students in text? How much can students be stretched before they “break?” How does current evidence inform these questions?
