7 Actions That Teachers Can Take Right Now: Getting Ready for the New Assessments

This presentation will address seven actions that teachers can implement during the current academic year to support their students in attaining the goals of the Common Core.  The seven actions relate to:  increased responsibility for reading independently, reading volume, generative vocabulary knowledge, stamina, reading across texts, writing in response to evidence gained from texts, and development of critical funds of knowledge.  Participants will be directed to resources to support implementation of these seven actions.

Presentation slides and For the CCSS Assessments and Beyond: Develop Your Students’ Stamina for Grappling with Complex Texts (Hiebert, E. H. 2013. Reading Today, 31(2), p18-19.) were distributed to the attendees.
