In many classrooms, students simply do not have enough opportunities to read connected, meaningful texts—especially texts that build knowledge over time. As a result, they have fewer chances to encounter important ideas and vocabulary to become automatic and enthusiastic readers. This session focuses on a powerful but often overlooked lever for reading success: increasing reading volume with texts that matter.
Anchored in research from cognitive science and literacy, this session shows how repeated encounters with ideas and vocabulary across connected text sets support automaticity, comprehension, and knowledge acquisition. Attendees will explore practical ways to expand reading opportunities—using existing resources, print-friendly routines, and AI-generated texts—so students read more—and gain more from every page.
