In this presentation, Dr. Kenji Hakuta, co-Director of the Understanding Language Initiative at Stanford University, will describe how the Initiative is working to make the language demands of the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. He will also describe the manner in which an understanding of language demands in content and literacy standards are used to create curricular and instructional resources that ensure that English Language Learners are given the opportunities to attain content and literacy standards.
